Although
in real life if you make a wrong turn you are stuck with your decision,
in The Neverending Tales you can use the [back]
choice to go back to the last page you saw.
You do this by choosing [add a path].
When you choose [add a path], this is what the screen shows:
Choice:
Fill in the new choice in the story, your name, and what happens in
the story after the reader takes the choice.
A short Example:
If you want to make a new paragraph of text, you need to
separate each paragraph with a blank line.
Please do not put your web-page on the "Author" line.
You can fill in a made-up name if you like.
Avoid using phrases like "You die." and "The End."
That's the whole point to a never-ending tale! It doesn't end!
Then you need to choose "Submit Tale" when you're done. Once you do
this, your words have become part of the tale!
Some pages do not have the [add a path]. You cannot add a choice to
these pages. Sorry! These pages have enough choices already, and there are
lots of other pages to add choices to.
There is a special Grand
Testing Tale for testing adding a link without
messing up any of the stories.
Right now, try adding a link to the Grand
Testing Tale.
Now you're ready to start adventuring within
The Neverending Tale!
You are standing outside the Tales library, or as we call it,
the Stacks. The large door to the Stacks swings open in front of you.
Within, stories await. Right now you see nothing but blackness.
You have two choices:
The Basics
Following a Story
To read one of the Neverending Tales,
choose which tale you want to read from
The Stacks. Each page of the tale
comes up on the screen for you to read. You have choices at
the bottom of the screen- you may choose one choice based
on what you would do in that situation.
What the choices look like:
-[Choice 3]--[add a path]-
Adding a Choice
When you're reading a tale, if you don't see the
choice that you most wanted to make, it is your
right-- no, it's your duty to make up what happens next.
Use your imagination and write it
into the tale!
Author:
Text:
Choice:
You toss the rock at the tree.
Author:
Joe S.
Text:
The rock goes flying at the tree,
and hits with a loud "Thunk"!
Adding a new Tale
If you have a great idea for a brand new tale,
write the first page as a new choice in the
Grand Testing Tale. Please
write 5-10 pages in your story so the readers will get a feeling for
the new story.
Then, send us
feedback telling us you want to add a Tale, and tell us the name of the
tale.
If it's really good, we will move it out of the Testing Tale into the Stacks!
Strict Rule: Suitable Content
That means don't swear or write anything you wouldn't say to your
teacher or your grandma.
We want everybody to enjoy this, and some
people don't like
swearing.
If you disobey this rule, your page(s) will be deleted permanently.
